SHAWNTE’S D.C. STYLE IN DOWNTOWN CHRISTIANSTED

Like many Caribbean islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands is a melting pot of people and cultures from around the globe. This fun fact often brings a callaloo of very stylish people to our shores.

Lucky for us, we ran into a very fashionably dressed Shawnte Edwards while she was on a quick coffee run in downtown Christiansted.

Originally from Washington, D.C., Shawnte has made St. Croix her home for the last five years. She shared more about her chic street style look with us!

Dress Better on the Weekend (DBOW): How would you describe your personal style?

Shawnte Edwards: I love a stylish and classic look, especially in the color black. I always pair it with a bold, red lip.

DBOW: Is there anyone who inspires your style?

SE: Kryzayda Rodriguez. She was a social media influencer who passed away some years ago, but she had fabulous style. And Shateria Moragne-El; I love how she plays with bold edgy pieces.

DBOW: What advice would you offer to someone seeking to define their personal style?

SE: The advice I would give someone about personal style is to feel confident in whatever you wear. You don't need to try too hard to represent your personal brand.

DBOW: Coming from DC to St. Croix, there aren't as many retail options here as there are stateside. How do you maintain your style now that you live on-island?

SE: I've been living on the island for five years. I found that I have the same wardrobe I had in DC, with the exception of my leather jackets, leather skirts, and boots. I can still stay stylish and true to my style. It's always easy to find a little black dress and cute sandals on island, but I still do a fair amount of shopping online.
