2 ST. CROIX RESORT BOUTIQUES THAT CATER TO LOCAL STYLING NEEDS
Beautiful silk dress with roped belt available at Buccaneer Boutique.
The shopping needs of locals and visitors are vastly different. When tourists book their flights to visit our shores, they generally come with rest and relaxation heavy on the mind. And, if they choose to do some lite shopping while on-island, it’s often for sunscreen, swimsuits, souvenirs, and sunglasses (well, maybe throw in a couple cases of rum, too).
Local resort owners know the needs of their guests and (rightfully) stock their on-site gift shops and boutiques with quirky tees, sun visors, flip-flops, and other “islandy” items that are all about that beach life.
While many visitors love this stuff, it would be too strong to say that us locals hate it. The reality is we usually don’t need the same things as our visitors because we live, work and play full-time in paradise right here at home.
Local ladies are looking for professional workwear, stylish occasion wear, nightlife looks that sizzle, business-casual pieces, cute minis and maxis for outdoor events, cool and classy linen, standout prints, and more. Not to mention, we want to be the only ones wearing the item, making sure our selections are as unique as possible and can stand out in our small, close-knit community.
Well, there are two hotel/resorts on St. Croix that do a great job of catering to locals when it comes to the selections offered in their on-site boutiques. They carry a wide range of clothing and accessories, both in style and price, that us locals can really get into.
So, to my fellow Crucian girlies looking to explore what some of our local resorts have to offer by way of fashion, check out the shops below for some great finds this weekend!

Coming in at No. 2 is the Fred Gift Shop at the Fred hotel in historic downtown Frederiksted. I love this place! If you’re a local girl whose style leans boho and you crave cool, colorful and eclectic pieces, the Fred Boutique has you covered. There are maxis and tunics and palazzo pants and short sets, and so much more! There are all kinds of fun accessories and cute knick-knacks to complete your look, not to mention a semi-private room with a selection of lingerie for those “special” times (wink). It seems the store’s buyers have thought of everything, and we love that for us!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE. Coming in at No. 1 is the legendary Buccaneer Boutique at St. Croix’s award-winning Buccaneer Hotel & Resort. Now, be careful. This property is large, and I counted four on-property shops and boutiques. There’s the Golf Shop near the guard booth, the Lady Martel Boutique, plus the new Mermaid Boutique—a quaint and colorful space inside the Mermaid restaurant on the beach (there are actually some really nice resort and swimwear items that locals could get in to, but this isn’t the shop that made our list).
We’re talking about the Buccaneer Boutique located on the upper level of the Shopping Arcade, near the fountains in the interior of the property.
Catering to both men and women, there’s a wide selection of everything at this boutique! From semi-formal wear to casual pieces and everything in between, you’ll find a host of unique items that will let you stand out from the crowd. Discover higher-end brands such as Joseph Ribkoff, Halebob Los Angeles, Cabana Life and more. If you like prints and colors, there is no shortage, but you’ll also find solid colors that suit your style. For jewelry lovers, enjoy exquisite, one-of-a-kind pieces that’s sure give your outfit that extra pop!
