DON’T FORGET THE RAINBOOTS!

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season has suddenly shifted into high gear with the emergence of Tropical Storm Erin, which, at the time of this writing, is forecasted to bring heavy winds and rains to the USVI and Puerto Rico this weekend.

In early June, VITEMA issued its annual Hurricane Preparedness information and just days ago, the agency announced territory wide sand bag distribution, Aug. 14-16, to help residents protect their homes and businesses from flooding with the expected rain.

But ayo, please don’t forget the rainboots!

I did not grow up wearing rainboots. This practice only began when I moved away to college and found out that not only was it wet when it rained, but it was cold, too. So, insulated rainboots became a staple for me to keep both dry and warm during the fall and spring seasons.

Benefits of Wearing Rainboots On-Island

Perhaps its just an unspoken norm, but many of us who live on-island don’t wear rainboots. You might see a local farmer or landscaper wearing them for practical reasons, but the girlees aren’t wearing them, yet the footwear can be great for both practical and style reasons!

  • They work great to keep your feet and pedicure fresh during downpours and eliminate the likelihood of your cute sandals getting washed away when hopping over our homegrown, USVI-sized puddles.

  • Rainboots are great for the morning after a storm, too. They keep your feet dry and safe from debris when outside assessing the aftermath.

Shop Rainboots Locally Now

As you do your last-minute shopping to stock up on essentials ahead of this weekend’s weather, be sure to pick up a pair of rainboots at local shops, if you haven’t already.

On St. Croix, Gallows Bay Hardware has them. They are available in colors black and white, come in unisex sizes 7-13, and range in price from $40-$65.

On St. Thomas, find rainboots at Sea Chest. They are available in colors black and white, come in unisex sizes 7-12, and range in price from $35-$55.

Shop Rainboots Online

Obviously, Amazon.

We like these Hunter brand Short Gloss Rainboots. They go up to size 11 and are priced at $165.

So, this weekend, be safe, stay dry and wear rainboots if you have to go outside. You’ll wonder why it took you so long to do it!
