‘RAS TAFARI DAY’ CELEBRATED JULY 23 IN USVI

In a first for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Ras Tafari Day was celebrated on July 23 at Government House on St. Croix, following a proclamation that cemented the day in USVI history by Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. on June 16.

According to a post on Lt. Governor Tregenza Roach’s official Facebook page, the special gathering gave the three houses of the local Rastafarian community an opportunity to showcase “their culture, way of life, and the foundations of their spirituality” to all in attendance.

“It was a necessary reminder of our African heritage and the many contributions of Rastafarians to the life of our community,” the post concluded.
