When a man wears a straw hat, the look just hits different.

We talkin’ big man ‘ting!

A straw-hat-wearing man has a certain swagger—an air of confidence, sophistication and, well…style about him that this one accessory, when paired with the right clothes and footwear, can separate the men from the boys in the world of Caribbean men’s fashion.

For practical reasons—namely, the hot tropical sun—a straw hat should be a staple in every V.I. man’s wardrobe. But for purely personal reasons, it should also be one of his go-to pieces when he wants to look effortlessly cool.

To get the best look out of your straw hat, follow these simple guidelines and watch heads turn:

• Purchase a straw hat with a wider brim. If the brim is not wide enough, you risk the hat appearing too small and ill-fitting.

• Wear your straw hat a bit lower on the forehead (unless you’re intentionally wearing it toward the back of the head, which is also a good look). If the hat lands too far back from the forehead, it gives the appearance of discomfort and the wearer’s desire to remove the hat from the head altogether.

• Throw on some sunglasses with your straw hat. You can’t forget the sunglasses, gentlemen; they go hand-in-hand with the hat. These two accessories paired together is your ticket to a day full of approving glances and compliments from friends and strangers [fist bump].
